Greetings Lil' Buffs!
My name is Cherie Wagoner and I am the proud principal of Birdville Elementary! I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself.
This year marks the beginning of my 29th year in education! I have been an elementary teacher, ESL teacher, bilingual teacher, elementary & middle school counselor, high school colorguard teacher, elementary assistant principal, and now an elementary principal.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in Spanish and Elementary Education. I went on to attend the University of North Texas where I received my Master's degree in Education in Counseling and Student Services. I also received my license as a private counselor (LPC). I then returned back to UTA to pursue my certification as a principal. Finally, and most recently, I returned to UTA and earned my superintendent certification and several hours toward a doctorate degree.
I have four wonderful children, Sabrina, Jeremy, Chelsea, and Ryan. They are all grown now; however, my youngest son Ryan, lives with me while he completes his degree at the University of Texas at Arlington. He will be graduating in December of 2014! My oldest daughter stays busy as a stay-at-home mom with two children and my youngest daughter works as a hair stylist and make-up artist in Ft. Worth. My older son co-owns his own shop in Arlington specializing in various forms of artwork.
We have HIGH expectations at Birdville Elementary as was evidenced by our receiving 4 distinctions by the Texas Education Agency for our scores for this past year! We also met all state standards/indexes and safeguards! This is not only a reflection of our teachers but also of our parents for supporting our efforts. So, I would encourage each of you to read daily with your child and to provide a structure each night for them to be able to complete homework.
I LOVE working with students and teachers and I could not imagine doing anything else! I have an "open door" policy; therefore, I am always open to parent questions and/or suggestions.
In closing, I hope to see all of our parents at some point throughout the year...because without your help - our students would not be able to reach the highest levels of success!
Hope to see you soon on campus....and be sure to follow us on facebook and our district website!
